Walking Among Antichrists

As we continue our walk in 1 John, a recurring pattern in this epistle emerges: John weaves in and out of warning and assurance. Because we live in the end times (v18 “the last hour” - 2x), we walk among antichrists. Antichrists arise from within the church; deny the Father and His Son; do the bidding of the evil one; and work to lead Christians astray. We, however, have been “anointed by the Holy One” [the Holy Spirit] (v20) who leads us and teaches us in God’s truth. John summons believers, then, to abide in the gospel they’ve received, for in this way we abide in the Son and in the Father and on the sole path to eternal life.
