The Importance of My Spiritual Gift

Does every Christian have a spiritual gift? The short answer is yes. Spiritual gifts are expressions of grace the Holy Spirit gives believers to serve and build up Christ’s church on earth. In our text, Paul compares the church to a human body. Just as the human body is one entity with many fabulous parts contributing to the whole, so the one body of Christ is made of many members – each Christian receiving an indispensable spiritual gift with which to serve the whole. The body of Christ is not to be like a bus, where passengers sit quietly in their seats and someone else does all the driving; rather, Christ’s body is an anthill – every person at work for the whole.
