Travel: Experience the Wonder of God’s World

Berlin skyline

Mark Twain once famously said,

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” (The Innocents Abroad/Roughing It)

Do you love to travel? Would you love to see the world?

Join Pastor and Sarah Greiner on one of their upcoming trips for an unforgettable opportunity to explore the wonder of God’s creation. You will return changed and inspired to travel again!

Current Travel Plans

Germany: 500th Anniversary of the Reformation (June 19-28, 2017)

The Land of Luther will come to life in an unforgettable way as we approach the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. We plan to travel throughout Germany, including such Luther sites as Wittenberg (where he nailed the 95 theses to the church door), Eisenach (where he stayed at the Wartburg Castle), Erfurt (where he studied as a monk), Worms (where he stood his ground at the Diet of Worms), and many other sites. We will also engage with members of the Selbständige Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche (SELK), with whom our denomination (LCMS) has an official partnership relationship.

Basic Tour (10 days/9 nights)

We will start out in the capital city of Berlin, with a stop off at what is left of the Berlin Wall and a city tour. On the next day, we will spend a full day in Wittenberg, the heart of the Reformation, before making our way to nearby Halle, where we we visit with a local Lutheran pastor and his congregation. In Eisleben, we will visit Luther’s birthplace, before heading to Leipzig, where Johann Sebastian Bach played for years. Our next destination will be Dresden, including the recently rebuilt Frauenkirche, which had been left in ruins for decades following World War 2 as a reminder of the ravages of war. Then we are off to Erfurt, where Luther lived as a monk, and Eisenach, where he hid out in the Wartburg Castle. A half day stop in Nuremberg will give you a taste of is wonderful city, including St Lorenz Kirche (for the Frankenmuth fans!), before we head to the walled city of Rothenberg ob der Tauber. Before we are done, we will stop by the university town of Heidelberg and Worms, where Luther declared, “Here I Stand” at the Diet of Worms. To celebrate our final full day in Germany, we will then take a cruise on the spectacular Rhine River and visit a small, family vineyard before making our way to Oberursel, where Pastor Greiner and Sarah once lived and where we will celebrate our farewell dinner, before returning home from Frankfurt International Airport.
